ReviewI never thought we would find a cat toy that would suit all of our cats. It’s been weeks and I’m still amazed by this toy. I rarely write reviews, but I’m so impressed I wanted to share all my thoughts. I apologize in advance for the length.OUR CATS AND TOY HISTORYWe have one cat who is smart and needs brain stimulation. If he doesn’t get brain stimulation he starts acting naughty (example: knocking things off counters while looking directly at you) While he loves every toy, there’s always something that doesn’t work well.- toys often don’t hold his attention for very long- Lasers: he quickly figures out that I’m the one controlling it so he will start trying to get the toy from my hand- peekaboo toys and lasers: he gets very agitated because he doesn’t have the success of catching it and holding onto it- wands: he’s fast and he also starts going for my hand once he realizes I’m controlling it. As a result, I end up speed walking around the house dragging the wand behind me while he chases after me. I tire out before he does. This isn’t great for our skittish cat.- Wands aren’t great because they requires a lot movement on our part which startled him, and he ends up running away- It takes time for him to venture out and investigate a new toy, which is about the time that most automated toys shut down or go into their sleep modeAnd then we have our cat that seems to be too good for most toys. (I refer to him as “Mature” below.)- He’s really only interested in wand toys, and yarn, which isn’t really safeREVIEWHighlights- Tail attachment design: it’s clear a lot of thought went into making it safe and durable- Battery life- The amount of time before it goes into sleep mode. Not too long, not too short- no chirping, bell, etc. sounds- No flashy, bright lights. Just the laser and one dot on the top indicating the speed- it can maneuver itself out of most places so it doesn’t get stuck- 3 speed settings- Replacerable tail accessories- Tweezers included for getting hair out of the wheelsDetailsThis toy has been absolutely fantastic and suits all of their personalities and needs. For the Smarty it gives him something that he can actually catch so he’s not pacing the house meowing in an agitated state. The toy keeps his attention because he can play with the laser or the tail extensions and the toy is fast and unpredictable. At times he chases it and other times he watches it from afar or above before springing to attack it. I was initially worried about what would happen when Smarty caught the toy and had the feathers in his mouth but this toy exceeded my expectations. When Smarty catches the toy and has the feathers in his mouth, the toy will try to move forward and when that doesn’t work, it will back up which is enough to make Smarty release the toy so it can speed off. This is fun to watch because sometimes when a cat catches the toy, it tilts onto its back two wheels which causes the laser to shoot up a wall in turn catching another cat’s attention. I had only seen Skittish play with laser toys before this but he’s enjoying the tail extensions as well and I think a huge part of that is because I’m not the one who’s having to move it so I’m not startling him. This toy also gives him plenty of time to come out and investigate before the toy goes into sleep mode. I was really surprised when Mature played with this toy! He really enjoys the tail attachments. It’s been a few weeks and they still enjoy this toy which is a first. When I’m working, I’ll randomly hear this toy bump into a wall and realize that they’ve woken it up and are playing with it.This toy exceeded my expectations and is near perfect. I could only come up with minor suggestions for improvement.- Improved sensitivity to waking up the toy. My cats are a little too gentle and have a hard time waking it- More durable feathers? The tail design is superb and the pole attachment feels really safe; however, I noticed feathers on the floor and it looks like the cat’s nails sliced through them. The feathers didn’t pull out of the attachment, they are all just short now. I’m not sure if it’s our cat’s teeth or nails that are doing this. After great success with this toy, I bought a nearly identical toy that had a few “smarter” things and my cats don’t like it. So I highly recommend THIS product!
