First, the TIVO Stream is a great value. It works somewhat like its competitors but at a better price. It works wirelessly and is super easy to hook up. It needs wi-fi, an HDMI port in the back of the TV, and an electrical outlet. That's it! It uses the Android TV platform, which is affiliated with Google, so you will also need a google account to sign into.Warnings:*Depending upon how many apps you plan to use, the setup can take hours.*This uses the Google Play app store. Only apps compatible with Android TV can be downloaded. Check the store to ensure availability of your favorite apps.*As of this writing, there are no apps for Verizon FIOS, AT&T, and other cable TV providers (read below for other options).*You can access individual channels that you subscribe to (depending upon app availability) by installing those specific apps and approving the device via your cable provider. This is a painstaking process.*I had trouble with getting some channels/apps approved for the TIVO Stream device. It was a bit maddening! When I switched from my computer to my phone it worked. I believe it was related to the system seeing me already logged in via my computer and not letting me get to the page for approving a separate device. That is only a guess, but there was no problem when I switched.*Because it is not possible to load your standard cable app, the TIVO Guide doesn't function like you might want it to. Never fear, though, because there are still many channels available.*Storage seems to be an issue. If you have Sling TV, more space can be purchased in a cloud, and that might be helpful for some. Whenever I press pause on live TV my system freezes. I do have a lot of apps and should probably consider getting rid of some to free up space. The more apps you add, the more issues you will have with the system freezing.*If you experience problems with your system freezing, etc., go to Setting, then Device Preferences, then About. Hit Restart. This restarts the TIVO, which otherwise stays on even when you power off your TV.*To check your storage and ensure the TIVO has ample space available to run efficiently, go to Settings, then Device Preferences, then Storage, then hit Internal Shared Storage. If you select Cached Data, you can clear the cache.Great Features:*The search feature on this sets it apart from the competition. You can search everything at once! No need to search individual apps.*Google Assistant is fabulous if you master how to use it. You can press the mic button and speak to pull up a favorite movie, hear the weather. It will look for your movie or show across all platforms.*Those that have had TIVO in the past will appreciate that it still has a program guide.*Comes with many apps you would expect, such as Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and YouTube. Check for up-to-date app availability on the Google Play store (Android TV compatible apps only).*Many cable channels have apps available. Disney, Showtime, Fox, History Channel, Cartoon Network, Freeform, ABC, etc.*There are alternatives available for those that do not have standard cable. There are plans through some platforms, such as YouTube and Sling (as of this writing there is a free trial included). Locast is a non-profit that carries local programming. Download the app for free and you can access channels in the TIVO Guide as well as within the app (although it is free, if you can afford to buy this, then you can probably afford the $5 per month suggested donation to keep it funded). Pluto TV also has free channels. Locast and Pluto TV are not available in all markets. You can check into availability in your area online.
